Wasla functions practically only in speech, it does not appear in writing. When a word defined by the article الـ comes after a preposition (eg في, من, من), wasla ~ appears over ا and than the preposition is read together with the following word. ~ can also occur between a series of words with الـ – then they are practically read together.
