the Quran

There is a an analogy between the Christian Bible and the Quran. Both books were written only after the death of the great figures of these religions.

The Quran began to be written two centuries after Muhammad’s death. The first orthodox caliph – Abu Bakr – ordered the collection of the scattered fragments of the Quran. Muhammad’s former secretary took care of this task.

The text from which the Quran was created had many sources. Fragments of the text were written on leaves and stones, what's more human memory was also used. Of this “original” version, only three copies were made and sent to different cities. The final text was established in 932 AD by two viziers who were assisted by a scholar.

Muslims believe that the Quran is the word of Allah dictated to Muhammad by the Archangel Gabriel. Allah’s Messenger dictated words to the prophet from the pattern that is in seventh heaven, that's why it proves that each element of the Quran is inspired and proper, the only one is in heaven, and there are only copies of it on earth.

The Quran has various names. There are 5 definitions of the Holy Book of Islam: 1. Qur’an – the word comes from the root “qr”, which in turn in Old Arabic meant “recitation”, not “reading” as it is now; 2. Al-Kitab – literally “book”; 3. Mushaf – the participle “to compose sahifas into one volume” means the collected and written Quranic text; 4. Al-Furqan – in the Arab tradition, it means the separation of truth from falsehood that the Koran brings; 5. Matani – This refers to prophets and lost peoples.

The Quran and its division

The Holy Book of Islam is divided into suras. The individual fragments of the Quran are called Surah. The suras themselves are divided into Meccan and Medina suras. There are about 90 Meccan suras. They are short, cut, fiery, passionate and saturated with prophetic thoughts. The themes of these surs are the unity of Allah, the qualities of Allah, the ethical duties of man, and the future payoff after death. There are 24 Medina surgeries. They are long. They contain: legislative material; laws against drinking wine, gambling and eating pork; arrangements concerning: alms, holy war, murder, revenge, theft, usury, marriage, divorce, adultery, inheritance, liberation of slaves, theological dogmas; ritual regulations concerning: prayers, fasting, pilgrimage and holy months.

Many characters from the Old and New Testaments appear in the Quran. A large number of the stories in the Quran have their biblical counterparts – many of the suras and biblical passages are almost identical – with the exception of purely Arab stories. The Holy Book of Islam shows the most similarity to the Pentateuch than to any other part of the Bible.

The Quran is intended to be recited aloud. To understand and evaluate it properly, you should listen to it. Its strength lies in the rhyme, rhythm and melody, which cannot be reproduced in any way in translation. The Holy Book of Islam is the ultimate authority on spiritual and ethical matters. It is the basis of Islam. Among Muslims, the Quran is an indicator of general knowledge and enables people to obtain general education. Even at the largest Muslim university in the world, the Koran forms the basis of the study program.
