Masculine and feminine
In Arabic there are only two types – male and female. For an unknown reason, from the moment the Arabic language was created no kind of neuter has been created. Until now. Nouns, adjectives, pronouns and numerals change by types.
CREATING THE FEMALE KIND
To create a word of the female genus, a specific letter should be added to a word of the male genus at the end of the word. The most common letter used to create a female genus is ة/ـة (ta marbuta – تاء مربوطة) added to the word of the male genus. The other letters indicating (not in every case!!!) to the female genus are ى and ا.
